Buckingham Palace Opens First-Ever Christmas Pop-Up Shop at the Royal Mews

Buckingham Palace Opens First-Ever Christmas Pop-Up Shop at the Royal Mews

The Royal Collection Trust has announced a festive first for Buckingham Palace: a Christmas pop-up shop that will transform part of the historic Royal Mews into a glittering holiday boutique.

Running from November 14 through January 5, The Royal Mews Christmas Shop will occupy part of the 200-year-old stables while the Mews remains closed to visitors for the winter season. This marks the first time such a retail venture has been established within the palace grounds specifically for the Christmas period.

The pop-up will showcase the complete range of official royal gifts, food, and drink from the Royal Collection Trust, alongside seasonal refreshments to enhance the festive atmosphere. The timing coincides with the launch of the Royal Collection Trust's annual Christmas gift guide, which features both classic products and what the organization describes as "future heirlooms."

New Products for 2025

Several new items debut this year, including mini 20cl bottles of gin infused with botanicals hand-picked from the grounds of royal residences, including Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The Royal Collection Trust has also launched the "Property of the Royal Kitchen" range, drawing inspiration from Windsor Castle's Great Kitchen, which holds the distinction of being the country's oldest working kitchen.

Wine enthusiasts can explore new crystal wine glasses featuring delicate etchings of knotted vines and grape leaves, inspired by the Grand Punch Bowl in the Royal Collection that Queen Victoria used. These glasses are designed to complement the Palace Collection's Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir offerings.

The Christmas range emphasizes traditional craftsmanship and sustainability. Official Royal Collection Trust chinaware continues to be manufactured in the UK at The Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent, using hand-casting, firing, and decorating techniques unchanged for 250 years. Tree decorations are handcrafted in India using traditional embroidery methods, supporting both employment and craft preservation, while children's plushies are made entirely from recycled materials.

Shopping Options and Mission

Beyond the pop-up shop, the full range remains available through the Royal Collection Trust's online store at royalcollectionshop.co.uk, as well as at their permanent locations in London, Edinburgh, and Windsor.

The Royal Collection Trust operates as a charity responsible for maintaining the Royal Collection and providing public access to royal palaces. Revenue from retail sales directly supports the conservation of the million-object Royal Collection, which spans paintings, drawings, books, sculpture, furniture, and jewelry accumulated by British monarchs over five centuries.

The Christmas shop represents both a commercial venture and a conservation effort, allowing the public to take home a piece of royal heritage while funding the preservation of Britain's royal artistic legacy for future generations.

The Royal Mews itself celebrated its 200th anniversary this year, adding historical significance to this inaugural Christmas shopping experience within its walls.
